How comes the name...
Brass stands for brass instruments (in this particular case for the Trumpet) and Dragon stands for the year of birth (in Chinese Calendar)...-the year of the dragon.
Putting these two parts together creates the artist's name.
Accordingly, the logo is composed of the three valves of brass instruments and the wings of the dragon.
Bio:
I was born and raised in Thun, Switzerland. I see myself not only as a musician, but also a graffiti artist, and a graphic designer. I only started producing music at the age of 33.
My heart beats for the hip hop scene and I am still deeply rooted in it. I used to listen mostly to 90ies Rap, jazzy HipHop, Acid Jazz and Funk. To watch Yo! MTV Raps was
my mandatory duty. First I started with Audacity to create sound effects and background noises and soundscapes, which I mainly used for animated (Flash) websites.
These sounds became more and more intense and complex and therefore had to be produced more professionally. I got to a point where the simplicity
of Audacity just wasn't enough. Then I started with Ableton. This opened up a whole new world anyway. I felt like a little kid who had found a huge new playground.
The desire to get my very own specific tone and sound led me to play an instrument myself at the age of 35. I instinctively chose the trumpet, which forced me to create an alter ego named BrassDragon. The Trumpet is a very interesting and difficult instrument to play,
but anyway me or rather "the dragon" in me quickly became very addicted to it. The possibility of playing different sounds (close to the human voice)
without amplification, combined with numerous styles, inspired me in the long term. But at the latest when it comes to adding electronics
and amplifying the sound... the dragon feels in it's element!
Genre="none":
The Style of the sound of BrassDragon could be described as DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) produced Loop based and repetitive chilly and groovy Soundscapes
which are influenced by Jazz, Hip Hop and AcidJazz. There are also Influences reconizable of Charles Bronson OST "Action-Thriller-Funk" -and those mystic Hornsections from the one and only
Lalo Schifrin .
The "Lo-Fi" Genre does not really match for his Sounds, as well as other specific Genres. I would describe my own sound as fusion, and do not like
very much to be put into specific genre-cages.
Influencers:
I am deeply impressed and inspired by artists
such as the Master
Miles Davis himself, the true "King of Cool" with his unmistakable, all-encompassing trumpet playing with incomparable dynamics.
Nils Petter Molvaer (Norway) who showed me that the trumpet can be so much more than an unamplified instrument and
with the help of electronic effects, it can break almost all acoustic boundaries.
Eric Truffaz (France/Switzerland) who set an example
for me that you can play the trumpet in a very classic way without sounding boring... Eric can also combine the classic Western style
with sounds from the Far East without committing a break in style.
Ben Neill who, not necessarily with his skills on the trumpet,
but rather with his self-made "Mutant-Trumpet" succeeded in breaking through all the physical limits of this instrument and letting the sound flow
into one another without you having to hear a change in technique...
But I like also likes to keep an ear and an eye on more modern artists such as Christian Scott or Theo Croker. Both found their own style at a young age and I hope thre is more to come...
